Choosing a pest control service
Updated 9 August 2026
Pest control is a licensed trade in NSW — the technician handling chemicals around your home should hold a current pest management licence, and a professional is happy to show it.
What to check
Confirm the technician's NSW pest management licence and public liability insurance. Ask which products they'll use, whether the treatment is safe for children and pets, and how long to stay out afterwards. Get the warranty in writing — general pest treatments are commonly guaranteed for 6–12 months. For termites, insist on a written inspection report to Australian Standard AS 3660, not just a spray, and treat a quote far below everyone else's as a red flag.
Common questions
Is pest control safe for pets and kids?
Modern treatments are low-toxicity when applied correctly. Ask which products are used and the re-entry time — usually a couple of hours for interior work.
How long does a treatment last?
General pest treatments are typically warranted 6–12 months. Termite management is a separate, ongoing program — ask for the inspection report and a plan.
