Choosing a tile and grout cleaner
Updated 9 August 2026
Grout is porous, so the clean is only half the job — without re-sealing it soaks up dirt again within weeks. Sealing is what makes the result last.
What to look for
Ask whether re-sealing is included or extra, and whether they colour-seal badly stained grout (a uniform re-colour that also seals). In bathrooms, ask how they handle mould in silicone and wet areas — sometimes silicone needs replacing, not cleaning. Confirm they'll test an inconspicuous tile first, especially on natural stone, which needs stone-safe products and its own sealer.
Common questions
Is sealing really necessary?
Yes — unsealed grout re-stains quickly. A proper job cleans then seals, so ask whether sealing is included or a separate line.
Can stained grout look new again?
Often, with colour-sealing — a re-colour that also seals. It's usually cheaper and faster than re-grouting.
