Choosing a doggy daycare
Updated 5 August 2026
A good daycare is structured, supervised play — not a free-for-all yard. The difference is staffing and temperament management.
Touring a facility
Ask the staff-to-dog ratio (1:10–15 is a common benchmark), whether every dog is temperament-assessed before joining, and how play groups are split — by size and energy, not just thrown together. Look for rest periods in the day's structure, indoor and outdoor space, and webcams so you can check in. Confirm vaccination requirements (a current C5) — a daycare that doesn't ask for yours isn't checking anyone's.
Common questions
Is daycare right for every dog?
No — and honest daycares say so after assessment. Anxious or dog-selective dogs are often happier with a walker or sitter instead.
